Obituary for Maria L. Martella

Maria Louise Martella, age 78, passed away January 31, 2020. Maria was born on April 28, 1941 in Detroit to the late Joseph and Delicata (Scarioli) Martella. She was full of life, always charging ahead to be the best she could be. She paved the way for others, in so many ways, being such an example of “how to”. She loved like no other... it was so beautifully easy for her to show and express love to her friends, family and acquaintances along the way. Then those acquaintances became friends, and she repeated this again and again. Everyone around her felt her love. Today she is an Angel to all of us and all of you. She was a shining light and gift from God.

She worked at Ameritech for many years in several positions, she began an annual art auction fundraiser (ArtShare) raising money for children at the Sara Fisher Center (the final event was held at the Somerset Collection and was sponsored by Ford) and most recently worked at FastSwitch as an Executive Recruiter with the best group of loving and kind people ever.

She had a loving and extended family including so many friends that loved her, she never stopped reaching out to catch up and keep friends close. That was the art and beauty of Maria!

She is survived by her daughter Anne Marie Palma, sons David and Jeff Palma; her beloved grandchildren: Isabella and Victor (Palma) Lee; Ravin and Luke Palma; her nieces and nephews Stephanie North, Hollie & John Sarcone, Todd & Scott Arnsby. She is preceded in death by her sister Helen (Martella) North and brother Charlie Martella.

Her wishes were to have a gathering to celebrate her life. Maria Martella’s Celebration date is pending at this time due to current State restrictions.

I’ve sent an email to each of you who RSVP’d. If you have not received it, please send another email to

We will be updating this site and facebook for more details on the celebration. We are planning a few fun things like Maria would want so check back and stay posted. Please email with your name, address & phone number if you’d like to attend.

Since her wishes were not to have a service or wake, if you feel the need to send something, she loved and supported Salanus Casey Center, a Capuchin Franciscan Ministry. You can do so at the luncheon and we’ll be happy to bring the donations to the Center in Detroit.
