Obituary for Jeanie M. Dark Everhart

Jeanie M. Dark Everhart age 89, formerly of Livonia MI, passed peacefully away on March 22,2020 at Serenity of Commerce.
She was born in Detroit, MI May 11 1930 eldest daughter to the late Henry Hutton McMinn and Elizabeth Pentland Fox. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Susan Earl and Margaret Nixon.
Much loved wife of Jim Everhart, ‘Evvie’ her darlin, who preceded her in death in 2007. Jeanie and Jim enjoyed traveling, dancing and socializing. They especially liked going to Vegas and their many houseboat trips with good friends.
Jeanie was a loving, strong mom to the late Francis M Dark (Barbie), the late Paul S Dark, Betty-Sue Gault (Jim) of New Hudson MI, Steven A Dark of Gulf Shores AL, Christopher Dark of Livonia, and Marguerite J Dark of Livonia. She also loved Jim’s sons, Mark, Wayne, Gordie, Fred, Ernie and their families.
Grandma Meanie to Danica Dark, Shawn Ray, Jamie Ray, Fionna Gault, Jack Gault and Ava Dark. Great Grandma to the late Dakota Dark Bird, Caitlin Raymond (Richard), Atticus and Milla Ray. Great-great Grandma to Gabriella Bond and Luke Raymond. Jeanie gave this name to herself and took great pleasure in telling people.
Jeanie graduated from Commerce Business School in Detroit. She held many jobs over the years but loved working for Clarenceville Schools the most. She was a secretary at both the junior high and the high school. She made many good friends there, both co-workers and students alike. They were at the heart of her best stories. Her second favorite job was at Huron Valley Sinai Hospital, where she began as a volunteer and was hired into the radiology department. She made herself indispensable to co-workers, partly due to her baking and to patients, frequently delivering the morning paper to return patients she recognized.
She loved to cook and bake, delivering bags of cookies and cinnamon rolls to scores of people over the years. Jeanie hosted many gatherings, family and friends, both at home and at Kensington. She dabbled in painting, knitting, sewing stuffed animals, candy making, and cake decorating.
Jeanie raised 6 kids as a warrior single mom. She taught them to have big hearts, open minds and the strength to carry on. She will be missed.
Jeanies family would like to thank her caregivers and friends at Serenity of Commerce. These women loved mom and treated her as if she was their own. We could not have gotten through this year without their hearts and hands. We love them more that we can say. As did Jeanie. Thank you for everything.
In lieu of flowers please send a card or letter to someone you love.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date as current circumstances dictates.
